High Speed Digital Camera – Buying Guide

Buying Guide

Buying the right high speed digital camera takes a little bit more work because you need to correctly identify if it is really high speed.  There are some digital camcorders as well as a few digital cameras that may have high speed recording functionality, but it is nowhere as good as a dedicated high speed camera costing the same price.  Only consider those types of cameras if you really want a balanced set of features.

When going for a dedicated model, you should find something that offers a decent resolution and frame rate ratio.  The maximum resolution to get should be nearly equal to the screen while you will be viewing these videos.  This means that high-definition TV owners shouldn’t settle for anything less than a 720p model.  Also, look for advanced features like better light sensitivity controls and updated motion blur reduction technologies.

Also, check the maximum frame rate that can be achievable in lower resolutions.  If the model looks really expensive, see what other hidden features it might have and look for an alternative that lacks them.  Some of these models may have Ethernet or larger internal memory capacities that contribute to the high cost.

High-speed cameras aren’t for everyone and their extremely high price tags show that.  But if you get an idea of what specifications you really need and match them up with a design that manages to be close to that, you should be spending a lot lesser than normal.  Professionals should undoubtedly go the high speed digital camera route while others should simply find a point-and-shoot camera that has high speed recording features.
